Skoemagerkroen

In English, the subtitle for this book is “500 hundred years on the mountain”. That is how long diners and travellers have been able to visit the inn, Skoemagerkroen, located at the heart of Zealand in Denmark. We have helped to put the eclectic stories into the form of a book that celebrates the craft and the cultural heritage, the grounding in the local communities and the vision required to stay relevant for years to come.

The book marries typography and design all the way from 1521 to the present, along with visual cues from Skoemagerkroen itself. The guiding principle when designing the book was to make all the stories, the history, the recipes, and the people in and around Skoemagerkroen come together. And possibly, to inspire readers to become new diners and travellers.

To talk of a mountain is an exaggeration, though, even if following the steep road to Skoemagerkroen, which is on top of a hill, seemed like a mountain climb back in the day. The subtitle is also a reference to a certain well-known play by Ludvig Holberg, whose origin crosses the path of Skoemagerkroen.
